EMERGENCY SHELTER PROGRAM

The Shelter Program provides 30-day emergency stay for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children. The location is confidential, allowing for increased client safety during their stay.

Who can use the services?
Any adult or child who lives or works in Hancock County and is a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault is eligible to stay at the shelter with their immediate family. Open Arms shelter is the only one in Hancock County that provides immediate, temporary housing for victims of domestic violence or sexual assault and their children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.   • Did you know…In 2007:
    • A total of 111 women and children lived at the shelter
    • A total of 4,420 people have been housed at the shelter since 1981 when it opened
  • Program Success In 2007:
    • 100% of clients felt safer during residency
    • 86% of people were more educated about domestic violence after residency
