Who is a survivor of Rape Crisis?
A survivor is any person who has been forced to engage in sexual contact that they did not consent to.

Who can use the services?
Open Arms will provide support to any survivor in their time of need by offering: accompaniment while receiving medical treatment and/or legal services, shelter, individual support and education for survivors, individual support and education for family and friends of survivors, as well as a 24-hour crisis hotline at 419-422-4766.

Did you know…Locally in 2010:

  • Open Arms responded to 23 emergency room runs
  • Rape services were provided to 121 individuals and 708 were educated about sexual assault.
Nationally: (provided by RAINN: Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network)
  • 1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime
  • 15% of sexual assault and rape victims are under age 12
  • Every 2 minutes, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted
  • Sexual assault is one of the most under reported crimes, with 60% still being left unreported
  • Approximately 2/3 of rapes were committed by someone known to the victim.  73% of sexual assaults were perpetrated by a non stranger
  • More than 50% of all rape/sexual assault incidents were reported by victims to have occurred within 1 mile of their home or at their home
Program Success In 2010:
  • 99% of the clients served, as well as their families, were more educated about rape
  • 98% of clients felt supported and more able to make choices
  • 96% of clients were more able to participate in the legal system
