HOW TO HELP US

Open Arms Endowment Efforts
Open Arms realized some time ago that agency programs were in jeopardy if we did not put a permanent plan into action to protect them. We began to build an endowment account. It is our responsibility as a charitable organization to organize in a way that allows for the stabilization of known needs while preparing to meet new needs.

WHAT IS AN ENDOWMENT?
An endowment account is a kind of savings account that allows a non profit organization to use the accumulated interest for funding stability. Endowments protect the agency by ending dependence on grants and non-guaranteed funding sources. We believe it is our responsibility to stabilize current programs so we can prepare for future community needs.

WHY BUILD AN ENDOWMENT?
When economic conditions become uncertain, permanent savings will help get through those difficult times and allow continuation of essential programs and services to the most vulnerable citizens in our community. It will allow us to self sustain; therefore, allowing founders to meet the needs of others.

HOW DO ENDOWMENT ACCOUNTS BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY?
They stabilize charities, adding resources to the community permanently

  • Agencies stabilized by endowment add permanent jobs to the community
  • Most endowments are invested, strengthening the community's
    economic profile
  • Agencies stabilized by endowment have the potential to end repeated URGENT operating asks

In order to save the agency it is imperative that we build an endowment account. An endowment account is a kind of savings account that allows a non profit organization to use the accumulated interest for funding stability. Endowments protect the agency by ending dependence on grants and non-guaranteed funding sources.

Currently Open Arms endowment account is so small that the money it generates funds the agency for less than one week.

Ways to help us build our endowment account include:

  • Purchasing Clothesline Project jewelry;
  • Making a cash donation;
  • A gift to the Open Arms fund at The Community Foundation;
  • Remember Open Arms in estate planning;
  • List Open Arms as a beneficiary on your life insurance policy;
  • Contribute long-term appreciated stock or securities;
  • Make a gift of personal property;
  • Name Open Arms as the beneficiary of the remainder of your retirement assets after your lifetime.

FEDERAL FUNDING
Open Arms receives more than $146,000 each year in Federal funding.

Federal monies earmarked for violence against women and children have been proposed for elimination in the federal budget.

If this happens, Open Arms will lose 23% of it's funding and be forced to close programs.
